Age UK is an amazing charity who are there for older people when they need someone one to turn to.

Here at Oakhouse Foods, we’re not only committed to providing high quality meals, but also a fantastic service. Our drivers often play an important role in their customers' lives, whether it’s just seeing a friendly face once a week or stopping for a cuppa and a chat, they can really make a difference. For those that aren’t fortunate enough to have that consistency or contact in their life, it's often all too easy to feel ignored, or invisible. In-fact there are 1.9 million people in the UK that feel this way. Perhaps they lose a life partner, or their closest friends pass away; these sad times in life leave loved ones in a lonely place. “Loneliness can be as harmful for our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day” - this harrowing statistic really puts into perspective how important engagement and basic interaction can be for people in these positions. We are proud of the service that we provide, many times our drivers have been in the right place at the right time for our customers when they’re really feeling lost - some have even saved lives. Age UK helps more than 7 million people each year, working with a network of 140 local Age UKs across the country. When older people and their families have nowhere else to turn Age UK is there with advice, practical support and friendship. Often people feel like they don’t want to waste another person’s time just for a chat, but if you need someone to talk to Age UK is just a call away. Never be ashamed to ask – it’s what they do. Age UK has a wonderful team of people who make weekly friendship calls to anyone over 60 who would like a regular chat on the telephone. This weekly call becomes something to look forward to. They stimulate thoughts, activity and friendships. For many older people their weekly friendship call from Age UK provides a goal – a target in the distance if you will, to get them through the week.
